This is a very well designed casing for the latest Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, provides protection to the powerful single-board computer.
One of our favorite enclosure/case for Raspberry Pi with Black color and build using ABS to provide rugged protection to your Pi.
The case comes in three parts so you can snap on (no screw). There is a base plane, where you should place the Raspberry Pi 4B board, the side part which is a rectangular shape part that has an opening for connectors (4 x USB port, Ethernet port, 2 x micro HDMI, USB Type-C, Audio/Video jack, etc) and a portion of the top side; and the last part is the top cover with a Raspberry Pi logo nicely engraved. The user is free to remove the top cover and access to the connectors of the camera, display, and GPIO.
By the way, the top cover is designed for
the camera module mounting mounting the cooling fan too. Again, snap and fit, no screw is needed. You can get this 3V-5V Cooling Fan for Raspberry Pi separately. We do recommend the fan because Raspberry Pi 4 is a very powerful single-board computer and it generates quite some heat :)
With the cooling fan attached effortlessly, it can be powered through the GPIO. here is the connection to 5V and GND on the Raspberry Pi's 40-pin GPIO.
Note: This product is just the case. It does not come with Raspberry Pi or heatsink or
camera module the cooling fan.
Note: The gap between the top cover and middle part is purposely designed to allow airflow for ventilation and cable (GPIO, Camera, Display) access.
There are openings for additional heatsinks on CPU, RAM and USB controller. So you can provide passive cooling by sticking heatsink on heat-generating IC :)
We have done the stress test for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 1GB. The test is carried out to compare the temperature performance of the Raspberry Pi 4 with this nice ABS case, with Heatsink only, Heatsink with Fan ON and also FAN ON only. This is just one of the many methods you can use to benchmark the thermal performance of the enclosure or heatsink. The test consists of two parts which are cooling and continue with stress-test. The stress-test loads the CPU to 100% and logs the temperature. We have also updated the EEPROM firmware of Raspberry Pi 4 Model B to 000137ad (date: 10 Sep 2019), the thermal performance improved significantly:
As you can see from the chart, the fan plays an important role in cooling the Raspberry Pi board :) Heatsink with Fan activated does not show any significant improvement vs Fan activated only.
