Note: MD30C is Revision 2.0 since January 2016.
We know DC brushed motor is widely used for many different applications; from conveyor, AGV (Automated Guide Vehicle), mobile robot and combat robot. One of the reasons is the ease to use it, just connect the two terminals of motor to power respectively, it will start rotating, so simple. Yet, to control the speed and direction from a controller, a motor driver is needed.
This is MD30C DC brushed motor driver. It is the successor of MD30B which is designed to drive medium to high power brushed DC motor with output current up to 80A peak (1 second) and 30A continuously. Full NMOS(solid state) design not only provides faster switching time, it is also more efficient and no heatsink or fan is required to get 30A continuous in room temperature.
Besides that, MD30C also incorporates some user friendly features such as reverse polarity protection for Vin/Vmotor and onboard PWM generator which allows it to operate without additional controller. The motor can simply be controlled with the onboard switches and potentiometer. External switches and potentiometer can also be used.
Which motor is good to be driven by MD30C? As long as the motor:
  • DC Brushed motor (Two terminals)
  • Operating voltage from 5V to 30VDC
  • Rated Current <= 30A
  • Peak Current <= 80A

Example of suitable DC brush motor with MD10C (Not limit to):

  • Bi-directional control for 1 brushed DC motor, single channel
  • Motor Voltage: 5V to 30VDC
  • Maximum Output Current: 80A peak (1 second), 30A continuous
  • Reverse polarity protection for Vmotor
  • 3.3V and 5V logic level input, compatible with:
  • Full NMOS H-Bridge for higher efficiency and no heat sink is required
  • Regenerative Braking
  • Brakes the motor when PWM pin is low (logic low)
  • Speed control PWM frequency up to 20KHz (Actual output frequency is same as input frequency when external PWM is selected)
  • Onboard PWM generator with switches and potentiometer for standalone operation
  • Support both locked-antiphase and sign-magnitude for external PWM operation. Note: PWM is not "RC PWM"

Hi, whats the operation and storage temprature of MD30C? ( Yavuz, 02/09/2020 )
We did not perform any temperature test on this motor driver. However, all the components used are rated from -40C to 105C except the MOSFET which is rated up to 175C. Thanks.
Your tutorial on the MD30C has instructions for manual control but the wiring diagrams it refers to are missing. How do I connect a toggle switch to JP6 and JP7 to manually change directions? ( PeterW, 08/03/2020 )
Hi, for such inquiry, you may drop an email to support@cytron.io for technical support. Thanks :)
When connecting two limit switches to JP7 & JP8, does tripping either built-in limit switch stop the motor from spinning (in its respective direction)? Or does it automatically reverse the motor direction? ( Bill, 20/02/2020 )
Hi, the external switch can override signal for microcontroller. Thanks :)
Does the on-board potentiometer control PWM frequency or duty cycle? Is there a way to change both of these properties without an MCU or will I need one to set the PWM to 1kHz, 50% duty cycle? ( colin, 10/02/2020 )
Hi, the onboard potentiometer only changes the PWM duty cycle. The frequency is fixed at around 10-12kHz. Usually, we do not need to change the PWM frequency for motor control. Thanks :)
What frequency does the onboard PWM operate at?
I need at least 16khz so the motor is quiet.
Thank you.
( istaf, 27/01/2020 )
Hi, the Speed control PWM frequency up to 20KHz (Actual output frequency is same as input frequency when external PWM is selected)
The motor controller seems to have a bunch of fancy stuff, like arduino support. But can I not use all that stuff and just plug in a pot and a motor and battery and it work fine? I don't really want to fiddle around with it too much. ( James, 02/06/2019 )
Hi, you may refer to this link on how to operate this motor driver without MCU.
The 7812 ic side is heating up when used with or without motor . Is it Usual? ( Mohit Agarwal, 30/03/2019 )
Hi, can you please email some photo of your setup to support@cytron.io. We will help you in details
Hi, I'm asking for a schematic of the board (or at the very least, your input schematic for the external PWM and Direction Pins).

I'm looking to use the output of an existing under-powered (24v, 15A) H-bridge controller as the input to this MD30C. I'm trying to use passives that I have on hand and I want to make sure I'm not burning out your board.

( Ben, 31/01/2019 )
Hi, sorry the schematic is a confidential however for your problem you may email the details to our support@cytron.io. We will help you with that. Thanks.
Hi, is it going to be available very soon? Thanks ( Abduelhakem, 07/12/2017 )
Hi, it is in stock now, it is hot item, grab fast! Thanks.
hi cytron, is cytron provide a data sheet of this 30A DC Motor Driver? ( nur , 02/11/2017 )
Hi, you can refer to MD30C User's Manual under Attachment tab. Thanks.
