Description

LoRa is new LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) standard to fill in the gap for IoT.  It is a perfect long-range wireless solution to create low-power, wide area networks. We have developed and released several LoRa shields such as:

However if you want to build you own LoRa network, there are 3 things  that you should prepare to get started:

  • A Gateway
  • A LoRa Node (At least 1)
  • A LoRaWAN network server where you can monitor all your devices.

This kit is 8 channels LoRa gateway designed and developed for Raspberry Pi board. With Raspberry Pi 3 and sample program to point to your favorite LoRa Network server, you can now have your own LoRaWAN network to collect and transfer data among all your LoRa nodes. We provide the sample code and guides for this HAT to stack on Raspberry Pi 3 and connect to TTN (The Things Network). By connecting the gateway with any of the LoRa shield and Sensors, you can build your IoT prototype within minutes.

Regarding the gateway HAT, it is based on RHF0M301-920MHz, it is a 10 channel (8 x Multi-SF + 1 x Standard LoRa + 1 x FSK) LoRaWan concentrator module, Cytron have designed a HAT to fit on this LoRaWAN concentrator and tested each and every unit before we ship. users can easily stack the HAT on to Raspberry Pi 3. We also included a 915MHz antenna.

Note: LoRa is a wireless communication technology, like all other wireless technologies, the wireless range depends on many factors: Obstacle, Line of Sight, Urban, sub-urban, rural, interference from other wireless wave, antenna position and orientation. For LoRa there is another factor with is spreading factor that affect the data rate. LoRa specification stated it can reach up to 5km or more. From our testing, we are able to get communication upto 1.5km using the 915MHz LoRa Gateway on Raspberry Pi and Cytron LoRa RFM shield at our office area. Other have manage to record distance of 702km(Not with this HAT).

Note:This kit does not include the Raspberry Pi Board.
