A rechargeable battery is always a good alternative compared to a non-rechargeable battery. This is a pack of batteries from PKCell with 4 x AA 2000mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries.

With higher capacity and rechargeable, the Nickel-Metal Hydride Cylindrical Cell in AA size, it is more suitable for many applications :) 1st possible application that I could think of is mobile robot where we need to long development time and rechargeable. Even as simple as a wireless mouse will be a good target too :) These NiMH batteries may have a similar capacity with Alkaline batteries but it can be recharged over 500 times, definitely a very environmentally friendly and cost-effective choice. The battery itself is 1.2V rated voltage.

Note: Do mind the voltage of each cell because it is 1.2V which is slightly lower than 1.5V (normal AA battery). Most of the devices are good to operate at 1.2V or multiply of it (in series), but some might not. Example micro:bit will not operate at 2.4V (2 NiMH batteries in series)
